Branch Volunteer Positions: A Glossary
All of these terms are used for emerging branches.
When a group becomes a branch congregation, the positions will change.
Emerging Branch—This is a group that isn’t a branch
yet, but is progressing toward becoming one.
Contact Person--This person keeps track of the
names, addresses, phone numbers, and e-mail addresses of the members and friends
who attend the organizational meetings (not the worship services). The branch
organizer contacts this person when they want to get in touch with the group or
people in the group.
Location Coordinator--This person makes sure that
there is a place to meet, reservations are made, the rent is paid, and everyone
knows when and where to meet.
Technicians (iMinistry)--These people are
responsible for downloading the weekly sermon for use in the branch’s
small-group worship service. They also set up the projection equipment and will
be responsible for the care and safekeeping of that equipment. They
automatically become part of the church’s iMinistry group.
Branch Stewards—There are usually two or three
stewards at each branch. When the offering is taken in the worship service, the
collection must be counted and then deposited. The stewards will do that. Each
branch has an account in a local bank where the money is deposited and checks
are drawn for local needs, such as paying the rent. First Unitarian Church’s
treasurer has control of the account.
Membership/Advertising/PR Coordinator--This person
or persons will coordinate any advertising and public relations activities (to
attract interested people) and membership (to help people move toward membership
once they’re interested).
Musician(s)—These folks play keyboard or guitar or
are otherwise musically talented, and they help folks who may be a bit shy about
singing feel more comfortable with the hymns and music.
Branch Recorder—There isn’t a recorder currently,
but this person would keep track of the decisions that have been made (and not
made) at the branches.
