The Rev. Ronald A. Hersom is the Assistant Minister at
First Unitarian Church. Before coming
to First Unitarian Church, Rev. Hersom was a long-time Unitarian Universalist
participating in lay leadership in congregations in Maine and Massachusetts.
A native of Maine, he has lived in the New England region nearly his entire
life. Recently ordained in the Unitarian Universalist ministry by First
Unitarian Church of Albuquerque, Ron served as intern here during his
2006 - 2007 academic year. A Unitarian Universalist for twenty years, Ron’s
experiences as a teacher, as a community organizer, as a management consultant,
and as a fundraiser are part of the work history and skills that he brings to
ministry.
During his journey toward ministry, Ron attended "Collegium"
in 2003, a conference for religious liberal leaders and theologians, and he
participated in the Southern Civil Rights Tour with Rev. Gordon Gibson in 2004. He studied Shinto while traveling to Japan during that summer as the 2004 Tsubaki Grand Shrine scholar. His passion for justice work is seen in his
participation as a mentor at the Lafayette School Mentoring Project in Oakland,
his membership on the Planning Committee for Seminarians for Worker Justice
(2004 - 2005), and his organization and leadership of the first Albuquerque PRIDE
Interfaith Service in 2007.
Ron’s family include his mother, Marie, and his
brother, Gene, who reside in Maine. Ron also has a daughter who lives in Iowa.
