Video Sermons for Lay-Led
Congregations
It’s
such a chore to get guest speakers every week…and an expensive chore, too!
Here’s an option for you to try: video-assisted worship.
In video-assisted worship, you run your service
in your usual way, but when it’s time for the sermon, you turn on your DVD
player and watch a prerecorded sermon. If your group has more than about 10
people, you’ll want to project the program on a large screen, which will require
specific equipment, but it’s equipment that you’ll find useful over and over.
Where to get the sermons for your
video-assisted worship? One place is from First Unitarian in Albuquerque; we
send out four sermons a year on two DVDs to subscribers of our Video
Sermon Service Program. These sermons cover topics basic to Unitarian
Universalism, and they are accompanied by hard-copy texts, readings, and
suggestions for other parts of the service. The sermons are suitable for showing
anyplace, on any date. The files are the high-quality files you’ll need if you
project your image onto a large screen. The cost for four sermons and service
materials is $100.
Subscribers to our Video Sermon Service Program
also have “download rights” to several years’ worth of sermons on our Web site.
These sermons may have references to Albuquerque or to particular dates, and
they have to be downloaded and burned to a DVD.
In addition, we offer a free trial DVD (which
is supported by a grant from the MDD). You can use the DVD in worship or in a
small group. All we ask is that you let us know how you used the DVD and how it
worked for you. A feedback form will be included in the package you receive.
